SUMMARY:G. Love & Special Sauce: Lemonade 20th Anniversary Tour
DESCRIPTION:G. Love & Special Sauce is an American Hip-Hop Blues band known for its unique fusion of hip-hop\, blues\, funk\, and soul. Formed in 1993 in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania\, the band originally featured Garrett Dutton\, aka G. Love\, as the lead vocalist and guitarist\, Jeffrey Clemens on drums\, and Jim Prescott on bass. The trio quickly gained attention for their laid-back\, groovy style and G. Love’s unique vocal delivery\, blending rap-like spoken word with bluesy singing. \nTheir debut self-titled album\, G. Love & Special Sauce\, was released in 1994 on Epic Records and included the hit single “Cold Beverage\,” which became popular on alternative radio stations and MTV\, solidifying their presence in the music scene. The band’s style has been described as a mix of “slacker blues” and “alternative hip-hop\,” as they frequently incorporate elements of 90s hip-hop beats with classic blues rhythms. \nOver the years\, G. Love & Special Sauce has released numerous albums\, including Coast to Coast Motel (1995)\, Yeah\, It’s That Easy (1997)\, The Electric Mile (2001) and the GRAMMY nominated The Juice (2020). Their sound evolved to include more soul\, R&B\, and rock influences\, though they retained their laid-back vibe and clever lyrical play. Their 2014 album Sugar saw a reunion of the original lineup after several years\, and they continued to tour and produce music with a loyal fan base. \nKnown for their energetic live performances\, G. Love & Special Sauce has played at festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. Garrett Dutton also frequently collaborates with other artists\, including Jack Johnson\, with whom he shares a similar vibe\, and has released solo projects that dive deeper into his blues influences. G. Love & Special Sauce remains a beloved name in the music scene\, blending genres in a way that feels fresh and authentic.

SUMMARY:MarchFourth: Night 2
DESCRIPTION:MarchFourth is a kaleidoscope of musical and visual energy that inspires unabashed dancing and an atmosphere of celebration. Born in Portland 22 years ago on a Mardi Gras Day\, MarchFourth’s collaborative roster has evolved through many musical generations. The M4 family now spans from Oregon and Seattle all the way down to New Orleans. \nCostumed as a psychedelic punk rock marching band circus troupe\, M4’s show features electric bass\, guitar\, a 4-piece percussion corps\, a 7-part horn section\, dancers\, acrobatics\, stilt-walkers\, a live visual artist\, and a diverse musical repertoire. Far from a “marching band” in any traditional sense\, they have been known to swagger through town playing a few tunes before taking the stage. \nMarchFourth travels in a 47 foot tour bus named The Highway Star\, bringing their unique brand of party and good vibes wherever they go. Their show is a sonic journey with worldwide influences\, echoing the deepest grooves of American funk\, rock\, and jazz boiled all together in cinematic fashion\, with showmanship\, flare\, and BIG heart. \nThis genre-busting\, joy-inducing\, in-your-face experience is not to be missed!

SUMMARY:The Altons & Thee Sinseers: Night 2
DESCRIPTION:The Altons: \nEmerging from Southeast Los Angeles\, The Altons have become a fixture in the burgeoning West Coast souldies scene. Helping launch the Daptone Records imprint Penrose as one of the five premier groups on the label\, The Altons blossomed from selling out local nightclubs to performing on the grand stages of Austin City Limits and the Corona Capital festival in Mexico–selling thousands of 45s in the process. \nThe heart of The Altons’ alluring sound is the distinctive and oft romantic vocal harmony of Adriana Flores and Bryan Ponce. Their voices intertwine effortlessly\, bringing a level of intimacy and sincerity to the music that groups can seldom achieve. Ponce’s virtuosic guitar playing is anchored by the formidable rhythm section of Caitlin Moss on drums and Chris “Bolillo” Manjarrez on bass\, creating a captivatingly organic synergy . Together\, the evolution of their sound can best be heard via the soulful\, sing-along hit singles: “Over and Over” [borrowed as the viral song “Otra Vez” by ProdMarvin\, which took over TikTok and Instagram in 2023\,] and “When You Go (That’s When You’ll Know)” [sampled by Mary J. Blige on her Grammy-nominated album Good Morning Gorgeous.] \nTheir forthcoming debut album on Daptone Records\, Heartache in Room 14\, marks a significant evolution in their journey\, as they collaborate with renowned Daptone Records producer Bosco Mann. “This whole album was a new experience for us\, from the way we approach songwriting to how we recorded the music\,” explains Ponce. Flores adds\, “Working at Penrose with Gabe was a turning point for us. Our songwriting process was broken down and rebuilt focusing on lyrics\, melody and arrangement. We started to create songs that felt vulnerable lyrically and contagious melodically. We welcomed the change and were like sponges in the new environment taking it all in.” \nThe opening track “Waiting” is a testament to that vulnerability. Ponce and Flores’s tender vocals tell a story of longing\, love and the patience that goes with it. Backed by a haunting organ and creeping rhythm\, the song is a head nod to the classic soul sounds that inspired them–albeit delivered with hallucinatory aplomb. Sung in spanish they deliver “Del cielo te cuido\,” a heartfelt homage to the boleros of their abuela’s living room and “Perdóname\,” a mid tempo groover whose guitar driven instrumentation and heartbreaking lyrics create a moody juxtaposition that is uniquely theirs. “Your Light” \, a dreamy\, earnest declaration of love that further showcases the undeniably charming chemistry of Ponce and Flores. With the verses sung in heavenly unison the pleading call and response chorus brings another layer of depth and emotion to the track. \nScheduled for release in the first quarter of 2025\, and with extensive worldwide touring in the works\, the highly anticipated Heartache in Room 14 is poised to take The Altons distinctive brand of soul music to lofty new heights. \nThee Sinseers: \nStraight out of East L.A. and led by multi-instrumentalist\, producer and singer-songwriter Joseph Quiñones\, Thee Sinseers feature a full brass section led by Eric Johnson (Tenor sax)\, Steve Surman (Bari sax) and Joseluis Jimenez (trombone). The line up also includes sweet harmonies and a tight rhythm section consisting of Christopher Manjarrez (Bass)\, Francisco Flores (Guitar)\, Bryan Ponce (Guitar/vox)\, Luis Carpio (Drums/vox) and Adriana Flores (Vox). Together they are a part of a community of musicians who are tying together the nostalgic and the classic with the innovative and the new to bring a unique sound to soul music. \nThee Sinseers are part of the Colemine Records family led by Terry Cole\, who released their first singles\, “It Was Only A Dream” and “I Don’t Mind” in 2019\, with a full length LP\, “Sinseerly Yours” releasing in March 2024. The band’s song “Seems Like” was also included in the inaugural compilation\, “Presenting Penrose Records” from the Penrose imprint of the renowned\, Brooklyn-based label\, Daptone Records. The song “It Was Only A Dream” was featured in the feature film “Self Reliance” starring Jake Johnson\, and in the TV show\, “Riverdale.” \nTo date\, Thee Sinseers have dazzled audiences across the country in soul strongholds such as California\, Texas\, New York\, Chicago\, Oregon\, and more. The road is paved in love and soul and Thee Sinseers are on their way to a venue near you soon.

SUMMARY:Nick Hexum with Water Tower
DESCRIPTION:You probably already know Nick Hexum\, the crooner-voiced\, laid-back California guy who has long been the lead singer\, songwriter\, and rhythm guitarist in 311. But do you? His three EP trilogy\, Waxing Nostalgic\, Full Memories\, and Waning Time (yes\, they are named in honor of the phases of the moon)\, features a Midwestern man from Nebraska who plays mandolin and pedal steel\, and has many memories from the past he’d like to share. \n“I’m a person who pretends like stuff doesn’t bother me. So\, I knew going into writing this record that it would be cathartic for me\,” Hexum says. “I think Covid made me realize just how limited our time really is – it motivated me to create as much as possible\,” Hexum said\nwith a laugh. “Is it too late for a midlife crisis?” \nThere is something about reaching not an age\, but a stage of life\, that forces everyone to slow down and inspires us to look around at what we’ve accomplished\, who we’ve become\, and what we’re leaving behind. For Hexum\, that meant turning to a different style of songwriting. The songs on these EPs are influenced by his foray into Americana\, both in instrumentation and songwriting. Reading Saved by a Song by Mary Gauthier and The Creative Act by Rick Rubin pushed him to explore writing far more personal songs inspired by his life. \nListening to Americana artists like Sierra Ferrell\, Faye Webster\, k.d. lang\, Patsy Cline\, and Madeleine Peyroux was part of Hexum’s path to making these EPs. The idea to release his first solo albums came after starting SKP\, a tech company that allows artists to release albums outside the major label system and retain the rights to their work. Realizing that system\, and the distribution it offered\, were at his fingertips\, was all he needed to release these songs after giving himself permission to become more vulnerable in his songwriting. “I don’t have to wait for other people to say when I can release music\,” he says. \nDoors at 8pm\, music at 9pm \n

SUMMARY:Marty O’ Reilly & Pat Hull
DESCRIPTION:Marty O’Reilly returns to Chico Feb 6 for an intimate Argus show with Pat Hull. Fresh off The Rhinefarm and The Voice.\n\n\n\nMarty O’Reilly may have recently been knocked out of NBC’s The Voice\, but not before turning three chairs with his soulful\, raspy rendition of Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble” — winning over Michael Bublé\, Niall Horan\, and Snoop Dogg and landing on Team Bublé. \nNow’s your chance to catch him up close before the world catches on. Marty is returning to Chico for the first time in more than two years\, playing an intimate\, 75-capacity show at Argus Bar + Patio in downtown Chico — the perfect setting for a voice this raw and powerful. \nFresh off his debut solo album The Rhinefarm\, Marty is back on the West Coast\, joined by Chico’s own Pat Hull. This marks our third time hosting Marty at Argus\, and every time feels like lightning in a bottle. We can’t wait to welcome him back. \nDon’t miss this special night of music — and keep cheering Marty on as his journey continues beyond The Voice.

SUMMARY:Grateful Shred
DESCRIPTION:After a meteoric rise from obscurity to a national touring band\, Los Angeles-based Grateful Shred has made the most of its time in the spotlight. The lineup\, featuring Dan Horne and Austin McCutchen alongside keyboardist Adam MacDougall woke the Grateful Dead cosmos with a unique laid-back harmony driven sound. The band literally went from playing the Shakedown Street vendor area prior to Dead and Company shows to touring the United States.\n\n\n\nThe moment that sent the band’s popularity soaring is the “Busted at the Bowl” video\, a YouTube video that features Shred members starting an impromptu set in the parking lot of the Hollywood Bowl before a Dead and Company show in 2017. They don’t get too far before drawing so much attention that the police shut them down. Instantly creating Shred-cred\, this was a bit of good fortune that doesn’t get past McCutchen. “We’ve been dealt some pretty good cards\,” he states. “It’s been cool to roll with it and push forward and continually make stuff happen. Things have gone our way. Even that video happened magically. It was put together at the last minute\, and boom!” \nThe thing is\, Grateful Shred manage to channel that elusive Dead vibe: wide-open guitar tones\, effortless three-part vocal harmonies\, choogling beats\, and yes\, plenty of tripped out\, Shredded solos. The look\, the sound\, the atmosphere. It’s uncanny. Far from being a historical re-enactment\, Grateful Shred’s laissez faire vibe infuses the band with a gentle spirit\, warmth\, and (dare we say it) authenticity. From their killer merch game to their eminently watchable YouTube channel\, they’re clearly having a rad time and spreading the love. Strangely enough\, in a world overflowing with wax museum nostalgia and Deadly sentimentalism\, we need the Shred\, now more than ever. \nGrateful Shred is: Austine Beede\, Dan Horne\, Alex Koford\, Mikaela Davis\, Adam MacDougall\, Austin McCutchen\, John Lee Shannon
