TAKAAT (pronounced tuh-cot), meaning “noise” in the Tuareg language Tamashek, is the trio of Ahmoudou Madassane, Mikey Coltun, and Souleymane Ibrahim — best known as the rhythm section of Mdou Moctar.
TAKAAT is sonic chaos. It’s deep improvisation, unfiltered energy, and the punk spirit of bands like Fugazi and Unwound, all layered with the hypnotic guitar music of the Sahel. This is raw, wild, and alive.
It’s been six years since our last show with Mdou and the band, so I was floored when Mikey reached out wanting to play in Chico again.
Special guest: XDS, who opened the very first Mdou Moctar show in Chico back in 2018 — a sold-out night at The Naked Lounge. Time flies when you’re having fun.
